Still going strong even from home! Every Guitar, Piano, and Band student has been given a quality instrument to play at home. Several percussion students have filled their rooms with drumsets, xylophones, even the timpani! (Thank you Parents, sorry neighbors!) Both Choirs are going strong, submitting recordings every week as we contiune to create virtual class projects. (See links above)
Downloadable practice tracks and sheet music keep the students in the loop and prepared for class. Amazing apps including Smartmusic, Moosiko, and Soundtrap are taking our music classes to the next level with collaborative audio recording and self-guided lessons. Zoom classes provide students with the tools and resources to continue their music education on their own.
Fun projects, entertaining sessions and a fun new skill, all without ever leaving your room. What more could you ask for?
For Fall 2021:
The MPHS Music program offers a unique opportunity for students to participate in numerous accomplished performance ensembles. Our concert performance groups include Concert Band, Beginning Choir, Advanced Choir, and the always-impressive Combined Ensembles. The instrumental program also combines to form the Pep Band, which performs at all home football and basketball games, assemblies, and other school and community events.
The Cardinal Band performs as a Concert Band in several concerts and festivals over the year, a Pep Band for all home football games and many home basketball games, and a Marching Band in local parades and at Homecoming.
Extra opportunities to perform come up often in various extra-curricular ensembles. These vary by year but often include: A Cappella Ensemble, Jazz Band, Stage/Rock Band, Guitar Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Drum Line and more....
In addition to performance opportunities, MPHS offers multiple levels of Guitar and Piano classes. No prior musical experience is necessary, these classes are open to any MPHS student who wishes to learn to play an instrument. Students learn piano and guitar skills while learning to read and write music and tablature notation.
